The Ontario Construction Regulations requires that all personnel that have to enter trenches and excavations be trained in the recognition and safe practices of those specific hazards. A competent person must also be on site to direct those activities.
Participants will gain knowledge in the following areas:
- Important definitions
- Understanding the applicable laws related to trenching and shoring
- Soil classification and test – their importance and who is responsible
- Cave in protection, access, egress requirements and pre-planning to enter a trench safely
- Recognition of potential hazards
- Safe work practices that must be followed while working in excavation
- What to do if hazardous atmosphere exists
- Underground installations
- Stability of adjacent structures
- Protecting the public
Who Should Attend – all construction personnel including site managers, general contractors, construction workers, JH&S committee members.. Maximum class size is 20 participants
