Hand Tools

Most front line workers use a variety of hand tools. They could range from something as small as an Allen Key to as big as a sledge hammer. All of them have hazards associated with their use as well as a proper way of using them.

Participants will learn:

  • The OHSA – definitions and laws
  • Understanding the applicable laws related to hand tools and hand tool use
  • Pre-use inspections – what to look for
  • Hazards associated with hand tool use
  • Safe work procedures for a wide variety of hand tools
  • Common injuries associated with hand tools
  • Ergonomic issues associated with hand tools
  • Selecting the right tool for the job
  • Proper maintenance of hand tools
  • Using hand tools in hazardous environments
  • Personal Protective Equipment

Length of the Course – 3 – 4 hours depending on the environment

Who Should Attend – All personnel including Supervisors, Contractors, JH&S committee members
